Our home Golu kicked off last night with talented friends and family, shlokams, music, a little theatre, good food, and lots of laughter.

I woke up this morning with so many thoughts and stories to document. I’m pouring them out over a cup of coffee, brain fresh and body sore, and I’m happy to realize that when I give in to the bigger energy, the small inconveniences are only momentary.

Morning after Golu 2026 visits.

Two projects led up to this year’s Golu, and the first one has its own story.

1. The Monkey Masks. For a kids’ drama and theatre fun event, I made Yakshagana-inspired monkey masks with Gond and alebrije motifs and patterns, for Vali, Sugriva, and Hanuman. Rama and Lakshmana got paper crowns and garlands. It was not a smooth journey: a cracked clay mask, a lot of cereal boxes, and 12 hours of painting into the night. I’m sharing all of it in the Monkey Mask Diaries, starting with The flop.

2. The Shilpa Shastra Stickers. Two years of my Shilpa Shastra drawings were digitally transformed, colored, and turned into a sticker collection for the goodie bags. This first set is 2″ x 2″, and other sizes will be available soon.

More Golu stories are coming, so stay tuned.

Cheers,
Radha
