While tripping over an uneven footpath on our way to the local filter coffee house, Darren and I stopped to look and watch the traffic while Rita bought a cigarette from a box-shaped, rickety store at the corner of our Jayanagar office. Little room was left for the beggar who tried to walk past the office going lunch-eaters, smoke shop, tender coconut sellers and the rest of the pedestrians on the footpath.
We talked about the traffic while sipping hot coffee and were wondering why not much had been done to make sure vehicle riders kept calm in a traffic jam. This small shop that sells the daily vegetarian and south Indian meal was home to most of us office-goers who needed a quick and cheap meal for the day. The type of place where one stands around tall stainless steel tables, sharing elbow eating space with strangers and friends alike, savoring hot vadas with hot coffee on a hot day!
We probably would never know the brand name of this place nor the fact that it was a restaurant or shop, but it did form the center of most of our lunch activities over the past few months and was part of out Indian summer memories this year and for years to come.
